Page Charges and Schorger Book Fund Guidance
This page describes the Department’s Schorger Book Fund, including how its resources can be used to help defray the cost of page charges
Schorger Book Fund
The generosity of the Schorger Family includes the Schorger Book Fund. On January 13, 2010, Chair William Karasov distributed a memo to the faculty outlining the use of these resources. The original text of that e-mail is below and remains the Chair’s guidance for decisions about what to fund and at what level.
In some cases money to pay journal page charges is not available in research grants.
To help ease things, we can pay for journal page charges from our Schorger Library Fund. I would like to do this on a trial basis for 2010.
Stipulations:
-Up to $500/article can be paid out of this fund for peer-reviewed publications.
-The acknowledgments section of the paper should include an acknowledgement of support from the Department of Forest and Wildlife Ecology
-A copy of the published article should be submitted to the FWE office
-We will likely create a display in the Departmental Reading Room with recent publications of the Department
Please minimize your use of the fund by sharing costs of page charges with co-authors from other institutions. The use of the fund for page charges will be monitored during this trial period, and further stipulations may be added.

The Schorger Book Fund is also used for upkeep and maintenance of the Schorger Reading Room (216 Russell Laboratories).
Administrative notes: The Fund that supports this scholarship is part of the University of Wisconsin Trust Funds. Key contacts for the award are the Department Chair and the Development Committee.
